Facundo the Great

Here’s a video recommended by a friend at the International House of New York. People refer you to such neat things when they know that you are an oral historian!

Although there is some contention between professionals in the field of oral history and the StoryCorps organization, their animations and general concept of bringing loved ones together for intimate dialogue are certainly quite neat.

I’m also reading Listening Is An Act of Love right now, which is pretty easy to get at your local library or used bookstore. It’s a concise (and a little bit sappy) version of what you might experience in an oral history interview with family members.

What do you think, should StoryCorps be labeled as “oral history”? Maybe it can be considered the public history version of the discipline?
